One teen was killed and another injured while drag racing in Macon County Friday night.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, 17-year-old Eilas Borders was driving a Dodge pickup truck along Long Creek Road near Johnson Road when he started racing another truck.

Borders lost control, ran off the side of the road, and struck a driveway culvert. The truck then crossed over to the opposite side if the road and hit a tree before traveling down a creek bank, where it came to a stop.

In response to his death, Macon County High School released the following statement on Facebook:

Regretfully & with a heavy heart...we share the worst news imaginable: one of our own—Eli Borders has passed away. Please continue to remember the Borders family in your prayers throughout this extremely difficult time. There can be no possible thing in this life worst for loved ones to endure. Please remember all his friends and classmates as well. This will be a very sad time for the Macon County Family. Thank you for the many prayers you’ve already sent toward the Borders’ family throughout this situation...they have been deeply appreciated. More will be needed in the coming days. God bless you all.
