A convicted murder has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with a drug-related shooting death in December 2016 in East Nashville, according to police.

Police said Eric Donzell Jones, 34, has been charged with the shooting death of John S. Moss on Marina Street near North Ninth Street on Dec. 12, 2016.

Officers responding to a shots fired call discovered Moss, 39, on the ground with multiple wounds behind his silver Chevrolet Malibu, which was still running. Moss later died at a hospital.

Police discovered a small bag of what appeared to be crack cocaine on the front seat of the car.

The investigation led police to charge Jones, who was already jailed on a felony probation violation, with first-degree murder after a grand jury indictment.

Police said Jones was convicted of second-degree murder in 1999.
