A Metro Police officer is being treated for a broken ankle and broken arm he received on Wednesday night after a teenage driver made an abrupt U-Turn to evade another police officer and crashed head-on into Lewis’ patrol car.
Officer Clayton Lewis, assigned to the Juvenile Crimes Task Force, underwent surgery on Thursday. Lewis is a June 2016 graduate of the Metro Nashville Police Department Training Academy.
Police said Officer Cameron Brown attempted to stop a car driven by Jarmain L. Brown Jr., 19, on West Trinity Lane because it had an expired license plate.
Brown came to a brief stop, suddenly accelerated and made a U-turn. He then struck Lewis’ patrol car head-on.
Brown and his passenger, Terrell Polk Jr., 18, tried to flee the crash scene on foot but were quickly apprehended.
In addition to both being charged with evading arrest, Polk has been charged with unlawful gun possession for tossing a pistol as he tried to flee.
Brown has been released from jail on a $20,000 bond. Polk was released on a $5,000 bond.
