A Metro police narcotics investigator has resigned following his arrest Wednesday for allegedly stealing more than $5,000.
Police said Sgt. James Landon Dunaway, 42, pocketed the cash during in a sting operation conducted at a local motel at the authorization of Chief Steve Anderson.
Dunaway submitted his resignation on Thursday.
Wednesday's sting operation comes after a secret investigation that began in September. Police said during the execution of a drug search warrant on Sept. 13, an officer saw Dunaway take some of the cash found at the scene and put it in his pocket. The officer then informed a department supervisor.
Dunaway, a 16-year employee of the department, will be charged with felony theft. He is free on a $2,000 bond.
Anderson said in a release that there is no indication that any other detectives is involved in any other criminal activity.
